WHICH UNIVERSITY

University of Manchester (Number 1!!!)

WHAT TEAR ARE YOU IN

First year

WHAT IS THE COURSE/UNIVERSITY LIKE

The course itself can basically be seen as a DIY medicine. You meet many different people and try out so many clubs at uni that you’re never bored (rugby club, Kenyan society, drinking society etc.)

HOW MANY HOURS WORK PER WEEK ARE YOU DOING? (LECUTRES/TUTORIALS/LIBRARY READING ETC

As mentioned, the course is DIY so 6 hours lectures, 2 hours practical, 3 hours PBL, 2 hours computing and 2 hours dissection. Private study is supposed to be 40 hours per week but that’s crazy talk; maximum 10 hours.

ANY ADVICE ABOUT ACCOMODATION

Check them all out before applying. Ensuite is handy to avoid morning queues but anywhere liveable is good. Uni halls are the best for first years as you meet more people and make friends with people on different courses.

HOW MUCH ARE YOU SPENDING PER TERM AND ON WHAT?

Excluding accommodation roughly £1000 per term. It all goes on essentials; food, toiletries, phone bill, eating out, going out. It’s better to make food than eat out in terms of cost per week; £20 food, £30 going out and the rest on other things.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEPNE JUST ENDING THEIR LOWER SIXTH

Check out potential uni’s before applying. Everyone has different opinions about each one. Also talk to people on the course to get a feel for it before committing yourself.

WHEN AT UNIVERSITY DON’T DO THIS…

Go out every night (according to my friend Jack). Stay in every night, lose track of  work, lose track of money, drink only at the bars and clubs when going out (expensive), miss lectures, have friends only in the same course.

INSTEAD DO THIS…

Go out in moderation (2-3 nights max – according to Jack). Keep on top of work, drink before going to a bar/club, join clubs societies to meet new people and be happy. PS avoid stoners and other drug users
